Flashback Friday: Gonna dress you up in my love

Only 28 more days until Halloween! Do you have your costume picked out yet?

We have a combination Halloween/Derby Recruiting Party, which gives me the perfect excuse to:

1. Wear a costume for the first time in 2 years.
2. Dress up as a "Sexy (insert...uh, anything...here)."

The whole "sexy cop" "sexy red riding hood" "sexy sheep farmer" thing has always bugged me a little bit. I've never really understood why everyone had to sex it up on Halloween (unless they were a member of Color Me Badd, of course). And until now, I'd eschewed the whole thing myself...last time I dressed up I was a Future Farmer of America, for God's sake. But this year is going to be different. And derby is my excuse.

See, a while back one of the girls introduced me to this store called Steve & Barry's. The clothing is of questionable quality, but they have lots of derby-appropriate skirts and shorts. And did I mention everything is, like, $8.88 or something?

So I bought this green skirt. I plan to pair it with fishnets (of course), white socks, black Mary Janes (or Converse if I am too lazy to find the MJs), and a white top. Add pigtails and a green sash (complete with "badges" for tequila shooting, ass kicking and beer drinking) and voila! Girl Scout Gone Bad!

The only hitch is that I have to convince SuperHusband to wear this cool Girl Scout cookie costume. But he'll do it, right?

Oh...this is supposed to be a Flashback, not a Flashforward. So do you remember those horrendous plastic costumes? I think I was Barbie once. And possibly a panda bear (the memory fades...I earned that tequila shooting badge I tell ya!). I was also a gypsy, baton twirler, baby (a couple of times), 70s chick, California Raisin and I'm sure some other things I can't remember right now.

What about you? Halloween - love it? Hate it? Costumes...past? Present?

If you need to jog your memory...check out this great site with tons of those plastic monstrosities!

I was a plastic Casper the Friendly Ghost a couple of times. I loved Casper!

In middle school, I was a Swatch watch! The one with the blue face (made of poster board) and one red strap and one yellow strap (electrical tape). I just kind of draped this huge homemade Swatch across myself like a Miss America banner. I thought I was soooo cool.

One year I thought it would be cool to do the whole white sheet ghost thing. Not. Cool. The sheet slides around and is constantly tugging at your hair. And it's hot. And very hard to be sexy.

LOL. I totally had that swatch!!!

The ghost sounds a lot like my California Raisin costume - good in theory, but wearing a black trash bag w/ tights, converse, white gloves and giant novelty sunglasses got real old. Real quick.

Hahah, when the league went out to go flyering after practice the other night, we heard "Dress You Up" on the karaoke machine at one of the bars we stopped at.

I, too, was a plastic Casper the Friendly Ghost one year. And numerous other plastic things which I have blocked from memory. Those things were SO FREAKIN' HOT!

Your Girl-Scout-Gone-Bad idea rocks!

OMG! Everyone would totally love him as a cookie! And if he's that, then I can probably get kyle to do SOMETHING...

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I have not had a reason to dress up in a really long time. It makes me kind of sad because it is so fun. I do remember the plastic masked costumes from so long ago. The only one I really remember being is Strawberry Shortcake. I am sure their were many others but my brain is failing me.

I like your blog! I will definatly be back.

Precious here - still can't figure out my damn password.

I had to use my imagination with things found in our house as my halloween costume...so I did. One year (age 8ish) I wore a kimono (my mother grew up in Japan) and little Japanese sandals, put my toe-headed hair into a bun with chopsticks and doused my face in baby powder...I was a Geisha! I just wished I could have been a plastic R2D2 like everyone else that year...
